ABOUT
Karsen Heagle is a visual artist working primarily in painting and drawing. Their work reflects autobiographical symbolism and is thematically focused on memento mori, feminism, sexuality, and queer identity. Often employing wildlife subjects, Heagle’s imagery metaphorically depicts states of ecstasy and transformation while staging acts of predation that suggest a commentary on the brutality of contemporary culture. Charged color palettes divert the gravity of the imagery.
Heagle’s work is held in notable collections, including the Contemporary Drawing Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. They have mounted seven solo exhibitions in New York and have participated in numerous group exhibitions. Heagle is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Brooklyn College and holds an MFA from Pratt Institute and a BFA from the University of Wisconsin–Stout. They live and work in Brooklyn, New York.
